Pros

Culture is one of the best. Great work-life balance.

Cons

Very slow growth. Exposure is less. The workforce constitutes of middle-aged people at Program Manager/Project Manager/Architect positions, and the management is busy keeping them happy.

Advice to Management

Growth rate is less, can be more aggressive in terms of strategy. People tend to get more laid back. More work, more reward policy can be enforced.

Pros

Lots of dedicated people who believe in their work. Willingness to grow and improve both on an individual and company level. A great example of trying something new that seems to be working is... reduced meetings on 3 days a week. Good work-life balance most of the time for most of the company. Insanely good benefits. Weirdly good compensation and a great standard of living (in Cary NC)

Cons

Epic's process management is an embarrassment. There are dozens of competing priorities at the executive level and Epic's product teams try to do everything, leading to lots of work coming in at the... last minute. Crunch is both a problem and not one at all. Lots of junior people feel pressure to keep working too many hours, while also being encouraged to work less. It's a weird dynamic as certain teams have self-enforced crunch on a regular basis while other teams don't at all. See the above point about process management. Politics play a real role in how effective you are and your job security in very senior roles. People can go from being very safe in their positions with positive review feedback to fast tracked to being fired because they upset the wrong executive. This actually leads to a heads down approach many people take to their work to prevent drawing the ire of executives.

Advice to Management

You really need to look at your peers. Some people are only in senior leadership because they've been here a long time and their ability to positively contribute is long gone. People are afraid to... tell you that because there is a mentality of shooting the messenger.
