I worked at Octopus full-time
Lovely modern and bright offices in a good area, many very friendly and helpful people and a great deal of opportunity to work in a variety of up-and-coming sectors. Generous salary and benefits.
Personally I didn't like the Octopus culture - although I think it varied depending on what part of the company you worked for and many others loved it. Very few women in senior positions and bad... decision making processes.
Advice to Management
Give department managers the ability to make decisions and stick to them.
I have been working at LMAX Group full-time
+ Pretty good work/life balance + Great colleagues, loads of people to lean from + Wide variety of topics to work on (core development, ops, data analytics etc) + Have taken a more data-driven... direction as of late + Enforced WFH lessons taken to heart => more flexible work arrangements available upon return to office
+ Sometimes, too many things to do, not enough time or prioritisation (maybe this is a good problem to have?) + Not all teams have quite the number of people necessary for the amount of work + Tech... / Not-tech inter-team communication isn't always great
Advice to Management
To paraphrase Steve Ballmer: Communication, Communication, Communication. Keep getting people from the different depts around the same table to organise and prioritise work. This has improved... significantly in recent times, but there are still plenty of resistance pockets that need evicting.
