Current employee - Physician

Pros

The positives are that you are working with really excellent professionals at the top of their fields. The system is capable of evaluating and treating very complex patients.

Cons

The clinics are not administered uniformly from department to department or even within departments. Thus one clinic may be very well-run and well-staffed, and another might be very disorganized and... under-staffed. Or, one program within a department may have funds to hire a nurse or social worker, but the others don't. Appropriate use of PAs, RNs, and scribes would greatly help maximize patient flow and care. There is minimal/no effort to minimize the "busy work" for physicians, and this also slows down the ability to see patients in a timely fashion. Patients can message you at any time on MyChart and there is no effort to filter out inappropriate but time-consuming messages.
