How is management perceived at Alpha FX?

Pros

You can do as much as you want, and the company encourages people to go further out of their comfort zone. People around are helpful, and they motivate each other. There is plenty of celebration and recognition opportunity as the business is growing fast. There are a bunch of social events large and small throughout the year and the cherry on the cake is an annual epic ski trip. Alpha has its own gym where you can exercise as much as you want, there is private bike storage and showers. There are sports and charity events through the year and a free bar to socialise and celebrate software releases and business wins. The company is giving people the chance to grow and there is no artificial limit in place. The management is lean and there is no dead wood around. I suffered so much in my career in other places where not very productive people were bringing teams and projects down. People who work hard could ultimately become partners and as a recognition get shares in the business. This recognition is motivating everyone even further and it is not limited to top management like in many other businesses. Top management is humble and sits with everybody else so there is no special treatment, all people are equally respected. In the technology department projects are done quickly so there is no time to get bored. There is also plenty to learn from all angles developing new software, AWS devops and business perspective. The new initiatives are taken seriously, reviewed quickly and quite often deployed without holding back.

Cons

People who do not have “work hard play hard” mentality would struggle. It is high pressure environment and as a consequence it is s not a place for people who would prefer doing very little or wait and count years to their retirement.

Advice to Management

Keep feedback channels open as it is the best way to find where problems need solving.

Top management is humble and sits with everybody else so there is no special treatment, all people are equally respected.

Are employees at Alpha FX generally happy and/or satisfied?

Pros

Some impressive members of the team

Cons

- Working hours beyond ridiculous - You don't need to work 12+ hours every day as well as be expected to work weekends to be successful in this industry. - Anything said in confidence to senior members of staff in meetings will be relayed immediately to Morgan (CEO) and used against you. Often resulting in a sacking. One must keep any negative feelings to oneself or risk being apprehended, not too dissimilar to those speaking out against the regime in North Korea - People will be hired from other companies solely for their book of clients, then sacked for "not fitting in with the culture" - In my time there I saw complete databases of direct competitors which could only have been obtained by former employees of said competitors. - Avoid working over the weekend at your peril - You will be lambasted for lack of effort. - Every single negative review on Glassdoor has been pushed down the list by fake reviews highlighting the positive aspects of the company - The CEO even asked people to write reviews in order to push down the negative ones. - If the CEO or his inner circle don't take to you after day 1, your days are immediately numbered; no matter how much money you may make them. - Large deals are done by members of staff then that member will be sacked before they are paid. - Tread very very carefully when considering employment here; you will be sold the dream but churned out faster than you could ever imagine; without rights and pay. Some great people there but a career in this industry is more enjoyable elsewhere.

Advice to Management

Treat people like human beings. That includes new starters not just those who have made you bundles of cash over the last few years. It is really a disgrace how easily people are sacked without notice pay and badmouthed after they have left. You couldn't be more two faced if you tried.

What is the company culture like at Alpha FX?

Pros

If there were any, they wouldn’t be at merit of the business.

Cons

Alpha offers its new employees a spiteful, vindictive and introduction into the world of FX. With its cavalier attitude toward recruitment, poor employee journey and prominent culture of “bullying to succeed” anyone who wishes to pursue a serious, meaningful career in either FX or the Financial Services should avoid this business at all costs. On the bright side, if the relentless hours for little recognition and constant degradation aren’t off putting enough the incestous culture and blatant chauvinism should put anyone off. One could go on, however such an organisation doesn’t deserve the attention for its behaviour. Star rating given as Glassdoor mandate, no other reason. Steer clear.

Advice to Management

Sort yourselves out. You are a disgrace to the FX marketplace.

What is the hiring process like at Alpha FX?

Pros

None, potentially compensation if able to close deal in over commoditized industry

Cons

- faulty hiring process with plenty of white lies and half truths - long hours with lying about it in the interview process. Not 9-6 not even 7-7 because if you don't work on weekend you're not working enough - toxic office culture with no team atmosphere and backstabbing. Either their truth or you are out - most of the negative reviews on glassdoor ARE TRUE - management and small group (about 5) are the only ones really happy with this place and berate the rest of the team - do not try to bring new ides or even worse, question the way things are done (even when they can be improved)

Advice to Management

Hope you realize you have disrupted many talented peoples careers. stop lying and making your marketing team fabricate all this reviews on glassdoor. So be more transparent about your toxic culture before bringing anyone on board

What are co-workers like at Alpha FX?

Pros

Alpha employs talented, hardworking people who give back to their environment, and it shows. From top to bottom, employees are welcoming and supportive, and are genuinely happy to celebrate your success. The team in Toronto is smaller, is very tight knit, and comes with the buzzing excitement of a Startup with the resources of a medium cap PLC behind it. Days are busy but fast paced; the week goes by very quickly. My colleagues are people that I can learn from, people that I know care about the work they do, and most importantly people I want to have beers with at the end of the week! I highly respect upper management's leadership style. Everything comes down to meritocracy. Questions/learning are highly encouraged, and there is a ton of support for new hires. Mark Stuart, Managing Director, my direct boss is a great example of this. He wants the best for the team, and it shows through his dedication and support. He gives constructive criticism where it’s needed, and just as importantly gives praise where it's deserved. Where we have had differences of opinions, Mark is always candid and open to new opinions despite being the boss. The office is in a Wework: open-ish concept, friendly neighbors, ergonomic desks, stocked kitchen, 2-minute walk from Osgoode station. We are moving to the brand-new WeWork at 357 Bay St soon... if it ever opens! Competitive base salary, benefits, and uncapped commission. Obviously, this job is not for everyone, but for me working at Alpha has been absolutely life changing.

Cons

Hard work/long hours; This was made clear in my interview process; there is an abundance of opportunity offered at alpha, but it is expected that you work your hardest. Hard work is a staple of Alpha culture, and it is easier to work hard when upper management leads by example. If you are looking to clock in/clock out at the bell, this job is not for you.

Advice to Management

Advice to management: Mark and Max have been instrumental to both my personal and career development. Keep up the support for PMs!
