Does Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina offer a weekly bonus?

Pros

Easiest jobs I've ever had work-wise. I felt like I was paid to do nothing half my career there. Even though I like to stay busy and came up with tons of new ideas when I was bored, I easily had like 3 months of absolutely nothing to do (and I constantly asked for stuff to do). If you want to be able to just sit around with minimal work, this would be a good fit. I had a lot of growth opportunities there and was allowed to wear multiple hats where I wanted to. Great benefits and bonuses. The pay wasn't too bad.

Cons

The people who work here will chew you up and spit you out, and love it. Ive been yelled at by senior BAs for the stupidest reasons (insecurities run rampant), Project Managers, healthcare product owners, you name it. I've been made fun of for being fat (literally have been called fat by people twice my size), I was heavily harassed by a joke of a person and our leader defended her every step of the way, even when I was pregnant and she was causing me major stress, and insecure old folks would heavily work to get rid of any young folk who intimidated them. Just seriously insecure people who made life stressful for no reason. Often times those folks did not contribute anything to the team. This kind of behavior is often shrugged off. Where I work now, it is specifically unacceptable to act the way they did (code of conduct), so this tells me that there is an acceptance of this behavior at Blue Cross NC. Management is truly a luck of the draw. I had excellent management in the last two years there, but Management before that within CGSO was a joke. They were manipulative and selfish, and a few outright bullied their teams. Some Management is blatantly nasty to everyone. It's really gross and unacceptable.

Advice to Management

When your best worker is telling you there are problems, be an actual leader and work to fix it instead of just asking what you can give them to make them stop complaining to you. Make a less hostile work environment, jeez. Pay attention to the feedback in the GPTW surveys. Everything I noted is often times represented there multiple times over. Stop trying to prevent people from escalating legit issues. I feel like you'll have a solid lawsuit on your hands if your management continues this way.

Great benefits and bonuses.

Does Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina offer a yearly bonus?

Pros

The health care benefits are the best in the world. The salary is fantastic the potential for making Merit raises and Company Improvement bonuses are fantastic. The company Gem Company cafeteria the employee assistance program and many many other programs and benefits are just phenomenal at this company. There are also several types of flexible work options. I personally worked from home 4 days a week and came on site one day a week.

Cons

Constant change to entire systems or two products. No one person can ever be an expert at any one thing. After 27 years I used to be an expert at an Imaging system from Soup To Nuts. Now I am someone who knows a little about a lot of things and it's not a good feeling. Most of my co-workers work overseas in India or Philippines and the cultural and language barriers are ridiculous. My manager is now someone from overseas. It's terribly terribly obvious that we are slowly being replaced with the people who live here and were born here with a completely out Source it operation that will be serviced from overseas. It made for an extremely stressful situation and I retired early. Fortunately due to the pension plan that was in place when I was hired and saving in a 401k I was able to retire at the age of 55. I would implore you to do the same and save for an early retirement because the stress was literally killing me.

Advice to Management

Stop pretending that there is no cultural or language barriers between the contracted employees and the local American employees. Contracted employees hired to work on two different sides of the globe in the name of getting product to Market faster only makes things go slower because of the diverse ocean of Separation in culture and language makes things go so much slower with the Myriad of misunderstandings and miscommunications and cultural falsifications that are rampant with the contractors. It's enough to make one go crazy and beef so frazzled with stress and health problems that they have to leave even though it's the last thing they wanted to do. This place used to be the best place to work about 10 years ago now I recommend people avoid working here at all costs.

The salary is fantastic the potential for making Merit raises and Company Improvement bonuses are fantastic.
