What are working conditions like at Cayuga Centers?

Pros

The work Cayuga Centers does for its clients is very rewarding. As a case manager, you facilitate reunification with clients to their family members. You also gain valuable hands on experience in the Social work field that is very accessible to recent graduates. The work can be overwhelming at times, and you have to learn time-management very well in order to avoid burn-out. A typical day includes filling in various reports, meeting clients to give phone calls, speaking with their Sponsors, and ensuring everything goes well during their stay at the shelter. Paid Time off is OKAY. You get three weeks as a Case Manager as well as 3 personal days and sick days that accumulate. If you are looking to get experience working in immigrant/children/social work field, there is a place for most everyone at Cayuga. Most importantly, there is room to grow in the agency. Cayuga is a federally contracted agency. As long as there is a contract, you will likely have work.

Cons

Many people advance in the agency because they are friends with upper management. It is a rumor I have heard since I began working here. However, if you work well, and advocate for yourself, you should be fine moving up in the agency. The work space is OUTDATED. Air conditioners that are decades old, inadequate staff lounge, not many workplace perks for employees. Sometimes have to cut back on staff

Advice to Management

More incentives/day-to-day benefits for staff (MetroCards would be a HUGE perk for commuting staff), more collaboration with Management/Staff to address workplace issues. Staff parking.

The work space is OUTDATED.
