How are the career development opportunities at Centene?
Pros
Committment to diversity; ability to help others, flexible workplace, benefits are comparable if not better than most, Excellent educational opportunities to grow in your career. Annual bonus plan. Constantly improving tools and resources to do your job.
Cons
Workload can be very large. Some people do not fit in with the culture. Must be Fast paced, willing to change.
Advice to Management
Slow down and enjoy the ride.

What kind of career opportunities exist at Centene?
Pros
Can negotiate rates upon hiring , great health Insurance plans, lots of opportunity to move around, all benefits/deductions, are exempt status are handled electronically. If your supervisor likes you, chances are you will succeed
Cons
Low balled upon hiring, micro-management in some departments, 30 min lunches in some departments, supervisors can block department transfers at free will, supervisors can fire and harass employees and HR does not help, hiring process from job fairs can be disorganized. Hours can change including weekends with no notice or objection (even if those aren’t the hours agreed upon per hiring), Sr Leadership/Mgmt walk around like everyone else is beneath them. Not fans of work from home prior to covid.
Advice to Management
Place and direct new hires in positions that actually align with their experience + passions that meets business needs instead of only considering business needs. As a new hire I was placed in a entry level position that did not require a degree although I had a BS and lots of experience, and was not allowed to transfer out for a year+

Does Centene have any sort of mentoring programme?
Pros
Centene does a lot of great things for our communities and offers several resources for it's employees such as mentorship programs, various inclusion groups, the online Centene University, and reimbursement for external trainings
Cons
Budgets and priorities change often. In order to be effective in this environment you need to be ok with continuous change and negotiating priorities.

Overtime is sometimes mandatory making work life balance more difficult
Advice to Management
Improve lines of communication between different levels and departments. Change is too slow when implemented.
