How are the career development opportunities at Charterhouse Partnership?

Pros

There are some solid experienced recruiters there Collaborative culture between teams Promotions for fees earners are based on billings and the process is transparent New induction program for junior recruiters covering well the basics of the industry

Cons

Commission scheme is not competitive at all (apart if you bill circa 200k/quarter) - comparison with the other agencies I worked for No real career progression - once reaching Senior Principal there is nowhere to go Promotion/hiring processes of managers and directors is not transparent and doesn't rely on merit Management keep people locked in for visa reasons only Overall the management is making a lot of money on the back of employees by having low commission margins and low base salaries

Advice to Management

Make the commission scheme more competitive and don't lie to employees on their visa status

No real career progression - once reaching Senior Principal there is nowhere to go

What is the feeling of job security at Charterhouse Partnership?

Pros

Some of the team are becoming very good friends.

Cons

This company really is the very worst place I’ve ever worked. Starting at the very top, the CEO’s mood changes on a daily basis, and how that manifests onto the team, especially in Sydney where he is based, is vulgar to witness. Whilst the PR machine is very quick to promote employee health, the inside reality couldn’t be further from it. Unrealistic daily KPI’s are created and used to aggressively manage you. Past employees, irrespective of their contribution are belittled, mocked and almost demonised, even when they’re your friends. The pressure to grow headcount has resulted in the quality of recruiter becoming laughable. Having recruitment experience prior to joining is a rare feature of the new hires. All of this is headed up, pushed and promoted by the CEO, who’s aggression, rudeness and arrogance that he’s in a job for life and can do what he wants are so visible to anyone that spends time in Sydney. Sadly the owner is based overseas, so only witnesses an artificial front when he visits.

Advice to Management

Take a look at staff turnover and more importantly the constant vote of zero confidence in the Australian CEO. The promise of change is always further ahead, but the changes are making it worse, almost every time. Do the honourable thing, quit and allow a professional, intelligent and articulate executive to lead us ahead in these troubling times.

How is management perceived at Charterhouse Partnership?

Pros

I received 2 weeks accommodation in a hotel and flight tickets paid for to relocate. Made a good friendship group through Charterhouse. Who majority have now left. Hires good consultants but unfortunately all leave after a year.

Cons

Where to start, this is by far the worst company I have ever worked for! The MD’s management style is horrendous and is an absolute bully! She likes everyone for the first 6 months and after this it all starts to change. She will humiliate people in front of the whole office, reject annual leave so all you do is work work work. The recruitment industry is very tough here even when targets are met you are made to feel like you can never do enough and your job is constantly on the line which isn’t a good feeling when you are an expat. She is a gossip queen, plays staff off one another. You will only succeed here if you play the game with her. She will also ask current employees to rate the company on glassdoor only reason the rating is okay!

Advice to Management

Stop being such a bully, try and retain your staff for longer than a year and improve your reputation in the market as it’s horrific!
