Does Etech offer sponsored degrees?
Pros
I worked with some of the finest people I've ever managed and one of the best mentor bosses I've ever had. I see the company is growing, and I wish many there the best of success. There are truly some wonderful key players in IT and Etech could do so much more if they could fix some of the internal strife in IT by putting people who actually know IT (or could manage people) in charge of it. Given the chance, they could take it far. The IT security team was a wonderful addition to the company that happened when I was there. The touted culture of servant leadership and their character commitments are tenets that could change the world. The leadership training I had there was life-altering for me. I could have used it 30 years earlier in my career. It not only made me a better manager but a better husband and father. Although woefully under-compensated, I was content and would have stayed there for life had they simply taken care of my team. I loved what I did and I loved (most of) the people for whom I did it. Tuition and childcare reimbursements are available. Etech, as presented on paper, is good for Nacogdoches (and all markets in which they are located). They are involved in social programs, charities, and are training good leadership from the ground up. I hear there have been improvements in the pay situation I'll address below.
Cons
I tried to write a lot of stuff here, but it kept getting toxic and I was resorting to ad-hominem attacks against a couple of upper-level management people. Suffice it to say, the VP of IT at the time I was there and his boss were not what one would consider to be "good management." The pay for my team was a constant source of contention between the VP and myself. There was a lot of attrition in IT due to pay. I was effectively training people to go work for other companies and I was vocal about it. They paid the techs the federally-mandated minimum to meet the requirements of full-time employees so they wouldn't have to track and pay overtime. There was a lack of cooperation between the various IT departments once the former IT director, who was a cohesive force that drove performance and accountability across all departments and centers, was moved out of his position. I continued to drive accountability in work and service with my team, so much so that I won an award for it. Other teams? Not so much. And with and the VP "in charge" being unwilling or unable to effectively address and direct issues as they arose, an ever-widening rift developed between the various teams that caused stress and confusion to the point that I decided I could no longer align myself with the way things were moving.
Advice to Management
Any suggestions here will fall on deaf or impotent ears. There's nothing I can say that I didn't say while working there. The HR people who may see this (and they were wonderful folks) know where the problems are, they just don't have the authority to fix it.
Tuition and childcare reimbursements are available.
