How are promotions handled at Freshworks?

Pros

Good culture Great product Very talented people Freshworks has the building blocks to be one of the best companies in the bay area, and dominate their markets.

Cons

Your experience depends on your manager. Some are fantastic, some are very difficult to work for. Lacking in overall support to some teams. If you're not an Account Executive, you're not going to be a priority. A 2019/2020 rush of hiring has resulted in some poor organizational decisions and a management team that isn't prepared to meet the demands of a large workforce, and hasn't included enough women in pivotal roles. Promotions are rare, and some roles have no path to promotion whatsoever. In a company expanding so rapidly, they should be looking internal-first. There isn't a coordinated sales & marketing effort to build the customer base. Each team is doing things in their own way, and the strategy changes day-by-day. Pay is well below market rate.

Advice to Management

Take the above criticism seriously to drive organizational change, and FW will dominate. When several employees all have complaints about the same problem areas, actually take action.

Promotions are rare, and some roles have no path to promotion whatsoever.

Multiple layoff if spoken up to Leadership on their planning gaps and guidance lapse.

Advice to Management

At Tactical and operational level - Discourage immaturity and improve productivity with industry compliance standards. At leadership level - Encourage Forward thinking and Risk management instead of penalising for speaking up when leaders make decisions that affect company funds and standards of quality.

How is management perceived at Freshworks?

Pros

Company is scaling very rapidly. There are tons of product innovations and a big push to hire as many people as possible. Company is ready to go IPO soon.

Cons

The Glassdoor rating is inflated with reviews from the Chennai office. Do your research, this is a company that is really HQ'ed out of Chennai and great if you are out of that office! The US office is far from what a tech company should be in the US or in the Bay area. Employees only get 10 days of PTO and 3 sick days. The company gives you a hard time for dipping into negative PTO and taking more sick days than what is given. You are expected to be in the office 9-5 and will be scolded for coming late or leaving early. There are a lot of favoritism and politics within leadership as some of the managers do not have any management experiences and senior reps get special treatments. Pay is below market rate. No HR and Operation teams in the US office.

Advice to Management

Value your customers AND employees.

There are a lot of favoritism and politics within leadership as some of the managers do not have any management experiences and senior reps get special treatments.
