How are senior leaders perceived at GE Aerospace?
Pros
Interesting industry and technology, large company, and some great people
Cons
Not a meritocracy, terrible culture, little to no work life balance, and terrible leadership
Advice to Management
The finance organization needs a complete overhaul. GE has had a history of giving preferential treatment to those who graduate from a GE Leadership program which has resulted in Executives who are severely underqualified for their role from both a skills and management perspective. Many lack the basic financial and industry skills to be successful in the position and the financial results show it. Promotions need to be based on merit and performance rather than "years at GE". It is not unusual to have an Executive who is five years out of college with no industry experience, no certifications, and no graduate degree managing those who are CPAs, MBAS, and have 10+ years of experience. The company needs a complete change in their Human Capital strategy which includes bringing in external hires who can help bring GE Aviation to operating like companies in this century. The company is full of outdated systems, processes, and management styles. The senior leaders have continually ignored changing the company and bringing it up-to-date in lieu of hitting quarterly performance targets. It is time for new blood and an organization that no longer has GE hubris.
