What is overtime like at GE Power?
Pros
Paid Time Off is super flexible and great. Good money, a lot of overtime extra money. Good experience for entry level/recent graduates. Amazing people and managers at GE Hitachi, willing to help with your career.
Cons
Very "macho" environment with technicians at plants, it tends to be very uncomfortable for women. A lot of travel to towns in the middle of nowhere. So much traveling you cannot keep a daily routine ever. Work during: night shifts, weekends, holidays, 7 days a week and more than 10 hrs a day. Very stressful environment at the plants (not in the office), management in plants tends to be awful, not GE's fault but still something to consider.
Advice to Management
Let people know during interviews what they will be expecting. Not only travel percentages but work conditions, hours, shifts, stress, etc. Help and support new engineers during outages, don't just throw them and expect them to do good in such a complicated and stressful environment.
