What is the company culture like at Hilton?

Pros

Very cool culture - If you talk to anyone at Hilton, they're always ready to tell you about how amazing their team members are. Management has invested a lot in promoting an inclusive and engaging culture. Decent pay and of course, deep hotel discounts. The on-site clinic at the McLean office is also really nice. They value work-life balance.

Cons

The organizational structure could use a bit of work. Duplicated roles across multiple groups can sometimes make it hard to achieve effective outcomes. Also, the flip side to the very social culture is that promotions can be based on politics and not actual performance.

How was the interview at Hilton?

Pros

Being part of the tip pool was good for beach sales, great staff underneath me, discounted hotel rooms.

Cons

Even though it is a Hilton in name, it is owned by a small franchise so the health benefits are not good. Was told during my interview process that the health benefits were as good as Marriott and Hilton. I can assure you they are not, especially since I had to go to the doctors (only once fortunately) when I was sick, the receptionist asked me if this was a real health company and they had never heard of it before. General Manager does not trust anyone and will tell you to do things his way despite not knowing or seeing what goes on a daily basis to understand. Also, they will post a Supervisor/Manager job (or in my case a Recreation Director job) on Indeed three weeks prior, then I was let go from my position after they hired someone, which I was not too upset because I had something else lined up. Guess it was fitting that my replacement resigned on the first day.

Advice to Management

There's a reason why there is constant turnover amongst Managers, Supervisors and it is not because of the guests. Lighten up and start trusting your staff. Oh, and be a little nicer and less passive aggressive. Maybe even be a bit more personable with your staff and get to know them instead of always looking upset. Was the only job in hospitality that I was glad to leave due to the stress the General Manager had.

What is the hiring process like at Hilton?

Pros

benefits for hilton are amazing and opportunities always present themselves for relocation. pay was slightly above average for the area. hr department made great efforts to feel included in the team.

Cons

upper management was detached and not open to feedback about daily operations. requests were never fulfilled due to lack of follow ups. union property so there are a lot of rules that no one goes over with you so it's learn as you go. onboarding was almost non existent along with training due to most management leaving food and beverage due to terrible work quality. expected to work more hours when short staffed without upper management assisting in any way. upper management used threatening tactics. hiring process was a headache. hr was nice but not cohesive and often time gave conflicting feedback.

Advice to Management

i recommend any department other than food and beverage. overall, hilton is an excellent company to work for depending on how your experience is with your director, my experience was not good due to broken promises and blatant favoritism.

hiring process was a headache.

What have employees experienced with background checks at Hilton?

Pros

In my experience Hilton is a company with a real family culture. There is a great vetting process in which they ensure all staff hired are fit personality-wise to match up to this culture. Expectations are high but everyone treats you very well and you are rewarded with great benefits such as staff meals, a very good deal on staff rates when staying at any Hilton around the world, team outings, department recognition months and so on. Love the company.

Cons

Only downside would be at times can be difficult to access staff rates when a team member wants to stay in-house. Depending on HR associate, can be hard to find a time to be able to use this rate.
