I enjoyed my time there. It’s shift work so you always know the hours you will be working, very lowkey

Pros

Free lunches. Food is awesome. Management and staff is overly all fairly friendly. Quick possibilities to move up in the company (we are talking months). Diverse hiring (you meet employees from all over). Beautiful hotel to work at.

Cons

System is very complicated and be prepared to learn it yourself. Training is lacking. You cannot learn this system by looking over another colleagues shoulders. 3-4 Rotating working shifts. You are tired and your life & work balance is non existent ( this was my breaking point). If you are a female, standing in high heels for 8 hrs causes great pain. It is awful.

Advice to Management

Please setting a training class for this system so that people truly get the tools they need to operate the complex system. Go easy on the rotating work shifts. Maybe Offer 2 shifts at the most if you want people to last.

4 Rotating working shifts.

Pros

Strong brand recognition. When quality suffers, guests will let you know. But if you work at a great hotel and people know it, that means something, too. Great perks for both salaried and hourly employees.

Cons

Like the rest of the industry, suffers from high turnover and unnecessary drama at the GM/AGM level. Mgmt often has difficulty retaining employees because shift leaders who know how to hide unproductivity are rewarded - given extra days off, given premium shifts - while those going the extra mile for guests don't see raises. Other times, salaried employees are retained whose work ethic sabotages the bottom line...but if they know people, they know people. Find out if the hotel you work for is about the $$. Then ask (yourself) if employees throughout the franchise are working toward that. If it's about the culture, then ask about that. If it's something else, then ask about that, too. If there is any inconsistency, then mgmt is prioritizing something other than the brand: look out

Advice to Management

Don't have to compensate everyone, but the hardest workers should be recognized and compensated appropriately. It's like the JS situation with the Broncos: if your franchise player is looking to get paid and people know you have the $$, if he/she doesn't get paid, don't ask why people think your brand isn't smart, agile. Don't ask why people think you are cheap

Pros

Free food during your shift that is actually really good. My managers seemed to genuinely care about their employees. Coworkers were nice. Got to see lots of stuff behind the scenes at the hotel\resort which was cool.

Cons

When I first applied I was hired for a position that didn't start for another month so I sat around for a month burning through my savings. About a week before the position started I got a call from HR saying their was a union dispute and that the position was no longer able to be hired for. They offered me a non union position as a pool attendant that I felt like I had to take because I had been waiting around for 3 weeks and declined interviews with other companies. I ended up working there about a month and a half before I had to quit due to long commute and shared vehicle between myself and wife that just wasn't working out with our schedules. If I had lived closer or they had employee shuttle to town 45 minutes away I would have stayed longer!

Advice to Management

Make an employee shuttle from Hilton Waikoloa Village to Kona!
