How was the interview at K12 Techno Services?

Pros

1. Some of my colleagues are really good at what they do. They are knowledgeable about their work, and you can learn a lot from them. They just don't get the freedom to work and implement their ideas. 2. There are such absurd deadlines that your efficiency will improve a little, albeit, at the expense of your well-being.

Cons

Truth be told, this would be a much better workplace if it didn't have just this one person who handles all the B2C projects in the C-Level position. Read on to understand why. Stay away if you can as this place might drive you nuts and will have a serious negative impact on your mental and physical health. If you can't keep away, ensure that you get paid well to tolerate the nuisance. 1. He operates on the classic bait and switch approach. First, find entrepreneurs who have had a failed venture; talk about autonomy, freedom, and responsibility during the interview process but resort to micromanagement (rather nano-management) as soon as you join. Sometimes he'll reduce the scope itself that was promised. Likes to have people who have families and responsibilities so that they tolerate him and his caustic behavior. 2. He likes humiliating people in the public. He'll call you to a meeting along with people who report to you, only to humiliate you. He calls a video conference to fire people. Sometimes even uses abusive language unbecoming of a person in his position. He likes shouting at people and encourages other people also to shout at their subordinates. "Agar koi kaam nahin kar raha to uske manager ko laat maaro kaam hone lagega" - this is his operating philosophy. 3. He likes being surrounded by sycophants. Anyone who doesn't conform to his point of view (which by the way is a complex derivative of the weather on that given day, the side of the bed he woke up from, what he dreamt during the sleep, what he read on Twitter, etc.) will invite his wrath. You'll be shown the door very soon. Instead of trying to create a good stable team, he expends his energy in trying to create a back of your backup. 4. "Do this in the next 2 hours." "I want this before 12 PM." "I want sales doubled in the next 10 days." "This website should be up by tonight." He creates these anxiety-inducing artificial deadlines just to keep people working harder. He can't trust his team and hence tries to control inputs. You have to send him daily, weekly, monthly reports. After sending all these reports he can come and ask you - What have you done in the last 30 days? 5. The year is 2021, humanity has created many great CRMs but we will not buy them. Instead, we'll spend energy and time in building one and the sales team is expected to work on this crappy piece of software. There are no tools, no processes, and most of all NO VISION for any of the products they're building. All of them have been copied from other companies. 6. Keeps doing these experiments where he hires a lot of people and then fires them. He thinks of himself as a clever operator but makes most of the classic mistakes that lead to failure; mostly sudden expansion. 7. Lastly, you don't get any coffee. Even in the swanky new office, there is no coffee machine. Can you imagine the level of trust deficit? They are worried that people will drink too much coffee. One can't absolve the CEO either just because he seems like a nice person. He is equally responsible for this mess as he has got no handle on how poorly his organization is run and has let this mess get created under his watch.

Advice to Management

Fix this while you can. You will struggle to get even half-decent people in the future. Karma will catch up with you sooner than you think.

First, find entrepreneurs who have had a failed venture; talk about autonomy, freedom, and responsibility during the interview process but resort to micromanagement (rather nano
