Does Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith offer massages?

Pros

The firm does a poor job integrating new attorneys. Very few Partners introduced themselves when I arrived and if a new attorney joined, I never knew unless they were on my floor. The firm does a poor job staffing work. In some parts, you are on your own and have to network which can be fine as long as you find someone. The firm as a whole is very cheap. They reimburse only $25.00 a month for your cell phone. You have to buy a second monitor with your own money. They do not provide free drinks like soda. You have to buy your own from the vending machine. The firm has no formal holiday party. Our office had an informal event at a local bar, but some of the Partners (the cool ones) paid for the food and drinks out of their own pocket. There is no formal year-end review process. Which is fine, but just really points to the fact that you are an island at this firm. The billable hour requirement is 2,100, which is crazy. The pay for a 3rd-4th year Associate is $100 to 105k which is okay (generally), but considering the high billables you might as well join big law. They also threaten to lower your salary if you don't meet your billable hour requirement (at least the offer letter said they can adjust your salary). I would only recommend this firm if you are starting off as you will get good experience: go to court, depositions, etc. But I would also join a group where you can lateral out of easily like employment. Leave after a year or two. I went from LBBS to big law and make over 190k and my billables are only 1,850. The Chicago office has a very weird vibe. It is two floors. The top floor is a lot of action, but lower floor is dead and one of the administrative workers is very unprofessional who always sings out loud and is very loud. I can't believe the firm lets him get away with his antics.

Cons

The plus side for Chicago is that you get to wear jeans every day.

Advice to Management

Lower the billable hour requirements and stop being cheap.

Does Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith offer dental insurance?

Pros

There is air in the office for you to breath provided at no cost to you!

Cons

Benefits - health insurance only covers 80% if it covers at all, following your $2,000+ deductible; no 401k match; no maternity leave unless you are an attorney, and dental doesn't cover cleanings in some cases... HR/management - expect micro managing; late 7 minutes, better call the office. Attorneys can treat you like garbage, its not acceptable for you to say "no" to anything, no matter how absurd the request ie demand. Office Equipment and Supplies - Everything is broken, and if it isnt it will be. Also expect to spend a decent amount of time doing tedious tasks due to poor quality/setup of equipment.

Advice to Management

Stop being so cheap, provide your employees with quality health care, and match the 401K.

Does Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith offer malpractice insurance?

Pros

Attorneys, including those who did not goto top schools, can get good litigation experience here. Some practice groups are more friendly than others.

Cons

The pay is below market rate. The firm acts like big law but contracts out extremely low rates with insurance companies so there is only so much it can pay attorneys. The firm still has high expectations and expects a high billable hour. Revolving door at firm.

Advice to Management

Raise rates and bring perks to job. Treat employees better.
