Does Lincoln Financial Group offer sponsored degrees?

Pros

Serving the client first still rings true for the better employees. Company is truly a good corporate neighbor and employees are out helping others on a daily basis. Tuition reimbursement, possible bonus each March, decent facilities depending on location, Fortune 200 employer. Philadelphia Eagles affiliation, if a fan. This is a large company with offices all over the country, so you could almost work anywhere, depending on your position. Insurance, Retirement Plan, and Annuity divisions create wide-ranging opportunities. Attention to operating expenses has created a long history of financial stability. Technology has been upgraded the last few years. A great place to start.

Cons

Management trainees/interns are expected to take over, if hired, so actually advancing beyond where you started is difficult, if you're not one. Diversity is a double-edged sword, it's nice to see, but more conventional employees may have to be superstars to have a chance to advance. Everything is measured and even ridiculous goals are expected to be met, with only the rare exception. The company culture is mentioned a lot, but there have been so many outside hires from competitors in middle management, I'm not sure it has survived. Growth is dependent upon solid stock market performance and a low rate of insurance claims. Generally known for high expenses in a very competitive market trending toward low expenses. Goodwill only gets you so far today. Aging clients. Some decisions related to cost containment or meeting federal regulations can be very cold and made without regard to how it will affect existing clients. Work/Life balance varies with the position.

Advice to Management

Market to younger clients and support older, loyal employees. Upgrade the employee retirement plan to match those offered to client employees and stop hiring middle managers from the outside. Clients should be given warning before their money is released, even if it is the law.

Does Lincoln Financial Group offer an employee assistance or workplace counselling program?

Pros

Great EAP and 401K programs. Nights, weekends, and 10 company holidays off. Pretty good PTO. Work from home extended due to COVID.

Cons

This job is even worse than your typical 9-5 corporate job. You’re glued to a phone 8 hours a day and are expected to follow break/lunch schedules down to the second. You’re expected to become an insurance expert in 8 weeks for the salary of someone working retail. You’re made to feel bad for tending to a family emergency or going to the doctor if it’s during work hours. (Why can’t your dog die on Saturday? You have calls to answer!) Management treats you like a kindergartener and goes behind your back to tell on you if you make even a minor mistake. It is company policy to do that. You encounter many rude customers throughout the day who are usually frustrated with something done by a part of the company you have no control over and no access to, you just have to let them berate you then jump right into the next call. The systems they expect you to use are something out the 1980s and there is poor communication across all levels of the company on top of that. You are knowingly ripping off retired people on a fixed income and still have to represent the company in a positive light even if they make a mistake. There is a huge turnover rate and the only people who get promoted are those who suck up to management or who come even close to the ridiculous, robotic standards of efficiency expected by the company. But even a promotion means you’re still taking calls all day- just from even angrier callers. Do not work here if you value your self worth. There are much better ways to make a stable living.

Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like babies and actually directly tell them when they need to fix something. Be more flexible and open to change.

Great EAP and 401K programs.
