Why do NetApp employees quit?
Pros
The main thing NetApp does well is remote working, but really this is just to enable it to leverage it's vast supply of underpaid remote Indian workers.
Cons
The company culture is plagued by political turmoil that resembles the plots of Game of Thrones. Teams are siloed, and knowledge sharing and collaboration are minimal, as individuals prioritize protecting their areas of control to ensure job security. This is particularly evident among contractors, many of whom come from India and are in precarious employment situations. The company's engineering processes are predominantly waterfall, and the use of agile methodologies is rare. In fact, the teams' interactions are better described as a broken faucet, where they compete for work and deliberately block each other's progress. Additionally, I have witnessed managers engaging in bullying and harassment of their subordinates during Zoom calls. I myself was victimized and reported the incident, but it was brushed under the carpet. Even when I escalated the issue to the CEO, no action was taken, and my contract was eventually terminated. The company's failure to address such incidents speaks to a culture of complicity and disregard for employee well-being. Overall, the company's lack of transparency, poor communication, and inaction in addressing employee concerns contribute to a toxic work environment that hinders productivity and fosters an unhealthy work-life balance..

How are promotions handled at NetApp?
Pros
Very people centric, with a great, inclusive, energetic environment. People are fun and hard working. Strong teaming atmosphere. Competitive salaries and bonuses. Very interested in individuals well being, especially during Covid.
Cons
Slow to no career growth opportunities. If you're looking to grow your career upward from within, it will take years, due to lack of openings or defined career paths. Company is trying to address this with lateral swapping opportunities, to provide learning and personal growth, but promotions are still few and far between.
