Does Nordstrom offer massages?

Pros

Nordstrom discounts and benefits, good name on resume, free coffee

Cons

-Hostile work environment which was never handled appropriately -Promotions and raises are based on who you're friends with and not merit and as such, road to growth and promotion is extremely frustrating -Leadership is extremely unprofessional in the way they behave and speak with other employees and vendors. Vendors got business if they were friends with the buyer or their spouses regardless of whether the vendor performed well or not - Politics gets too much in the way of what's the right thing for the business - Leadership at Nordstrom is focused on being "nice" so issues just get swept under the rug instead of being dealt with effectively In conclusion, everyone is so frustrated that they're all just aggressive with each other making it painful to work there.

Advice to Management

When you've identified a "bad apple", deal with it head on by correcting bad behavior and implement anti-retaliatory measures so that the employees aren't living in fear. You stand to lose strong talent and only keep these bad apples when you sweep their behavior under the rug. It only emboldens them to do so more and more aggressively. Teach leadership to act like leadership. Take the employee surveys seriously. Also, pay people fairly. The salary "ranges" varied quite wildly for the same job. You risk losing talent and tarnishing your reputation as an employer if these pieces don't get corrected.

Does Nordstrom offer dental insurance?

Pros

- working from home - plenty of growth opportunities - company wants to help you grow in the direction you want to go in - plenty of benefits such as healthcare, dental insurance, life insurance, and 401K - my managers were supportive

Cons

- did not notify us far enough in advance that we were getting laid off - have to wait to accrue your time off before using out - limited PTO for the year and you're not allowed to take unpaid time off either - personally, because it was a remote position, it was harder to get to know your coworkers and bond with them - definitely not enough stylists were hired to meet customer demand, so we were expected to do trunks in too little of a time frame to meet our daily trunk goals

Advice to Management

- Allow people to take more time off when they need and don't make employees have to "accrue" their PTO before using it. Just give them a set amount for the year. - Let employees know at least 3 months in advance before they get laid off, so they have time to prepare and look for a new job - Since one of Nordstrom's values is being "customer obsessed," I would advise you to give employees more time to properly work with customers to meet their needs. I know Nordstrom severed Trunk Club, but I believe this still would apply to any customer-service oriented department.
