What is the work environment like at Northwest Bank?

Pros

Great benefits and decent pay. Work environment is very encouraging and community minded. Always learning something new.

Cons

As in any bank environment, can be a little intense at times since you are dealing with customer issues on a daily basis.

What are working conditions like at Northwest Bank?

Pros

Pretty decent benefits, but that's it

Cons

Everything... I started as a happy employee. The pay didn't match the work expectations. But this only worsened over time. Job titles used to designate how much you were paid because each title meant you had more or fewer responsibilities than other employees, but when Northwest bought out the bank I worked for, they merged several titles and low-level employees were expected to take on many new responsibilities. Sometimes this would result in complicated changes, and even small errors resulted in staying after hours quite a long time to correct, lest you wanted a serious reprimand. It goes without saying that more responsibilities did not mean more pay. Employees are made to work in increasingly stressful environments amidst coworkers being let go or falling ill with no one to pick up the slack. At least in the area I worked in, we were desperately understaffed for an extended period of time, resulting in mistakes and terribly poor morale. Instead of taking note of our concerns, the managers were instructed to buy us a pizza or two, and any dissent or unhappiness was treated as an employee simply having a bad attitude. The clothing schedule is antiquated and uncomfortable. If an employee is unable to wear a specific shirt provided by the company for whatever reason (can't find it, it's damaged with wear and tear, etc.) an employee can be sent home without pay. However, you wear a single-colored shirt every single week and it breaks down, so you're expected to buy the same shirt from a very expensive catalog the company provides to replace it. If you gained or lost weight, the expectations were the same - purchase another expensive replacement. Ridiculous. Job opportunities opened regularly, but it appeared to be more of a popularity contest. Positions were promised to friends of managers even before holding interviews, which were a waste of time for everyone involved as the position wasn't even available anymore. I left the company miserably. It was not the homey, fun family I started working at, and with the pace at which they're declining, I don't think it'll ever be again.

Advice to Management

The bottom line handed down from corporate doesn't mean throw employees under the bus so that you still look good while trampling hard workers. Gossiping about underlings to other employees is unprofessional. Do better at managing.

If an employee is unable to wear a specific shirt provided by the company for whatever reason (can't find it, it's damaged with wear and tear, etc.) an employee can be sent home without pay.
