Why do Orion Innovation employees quit?

Pros

PTO is OK *IF* you can leverage an extra week of PTO time upon start date Company is flexible with coming/leaving early Great Location (Woodcliff Lake Location is beautiful) Lower Management is helpful with addressing immediate concerns Team sizes aren't too large, so easy to develop relationships with supervisor's Able to handle a variety of different software projects (both proprietary and non-proprietary) if desired Company will reimburse for certification exam attempts if they are passed You are able to roll over 5 unused vacation days/year Vacation Days (not sick days) will be cashed out if a 2 weeks employment termination notice is provided by the employee

Cons

Growth Path: MINIMAL... Orion's primary services are Staff Augmentations with their client accounts, meaning their primary goal is to keep the client accounts pleased, which comes at the expense of the investment of employees... In short, once in a position, there usually is no place to go up since the purpose for you being hired was to fill a specific role, and upper management does not care to place it's employees into higher paying roles since they would prefer to underpay someone from the outside for another role. This translates to almost no career growth path. Training is NOT paid for unless there is special exception, but certifications are heavily stressed even if there is no training path. Company will NOT send you to pay-for seminars or workshops. Work Culture: NONE... Most people hired are here on work visas, typically from India. Most employees are closely related, or close to eachother on a friendly level, you will not establish any kind of relationship with work peers--some don't speak English well, and some hardly even use English to begin with Compensation: BELOW AVERAGE... All Employees that I know who work here are paid WELL BELOW market value. Because the company relies on Staff Augmentation, they tend to underpay employees so that they can make additional $ on the placements/role fillings for their client accounts. There are NO bonus structures for most positions PTO: AVERAGE... It takes 5 years to get an additional FIVE (5) vacation days... This is abysmal Politics: BAD... There are many employees who are directly related via family within the company, and nepotism does show

Advice to Management

Start by putting the employee first. Enough of the bending over backwards to please the clients. Hire the right people and the satisfaction will follow When hiring new employees, put them on an established growth path IMMEDIATELY. Be open and honest about ceilings of positions. Do not pigeonhole employees to satisfy a client need. Start paying employees at market value, stop cutting off on needs because they are too expensive to fill Start TRAINING your staff, let them ask for workshops and seminars and PAY FOR THEM. Employers that want to further their companies do not force their employees to pay for training required to further the company.

How are senior leaders perceived at Orion Innovation?

Pros

Only good thing is that salary will be paid on time, and good friendly relationship among employees.

Cons

I have been with Orion for 5+ years and have lost much of my valuable and precious time which was supposed to be with my family. There will not be any sort of work life balance. Need to work on weekends continuously(both days) during releases which happens almost every 3 months and unplanned patches in between. Comp offs will be provided for the weekend work.If somebody is not able to come on weekends, there will be calls coming from the leadership asking for reason. If an employee is not available on weekend, they need to apply for leave as well as per the changes from new leadership team. There is no proper planning from the management , In the morning there will be an email from onshore to create a patch, test and deliver the same day. Most of the releases happen by next day morning or even later, everyone need to be in office waiting for the fixes overnight. This is one classics example on how the company runs. The status calls from onshore is like a question answer session. Most of the onshore team behaves very badly at the offshore and there is lot of frustration within the team. There is too much of pressure on everyone at offshore team. There will be celebrations planned on Xmas and Onam time and also releases planned on the same day . Whoever is participating in these celebrations need to work late night to complete the tasks. There is lot of micromanagement from the lop level as well. The new leadership is trying into bring many employee unfriendly policies. The appraisal cycle will be delayed for 4-5 months every year, arrears will be paid even though. During the work from home time, it is a sort of 24/7 work support from home.

Advice to Management

Try to reduce pressure on the team to get better output and understand the concerns from the team and act upon. Stop micromanagement and do something to have better work life balance. The new leadership team need to make policies that are employee friendly.
