Does Roche offer vision insurance?

Pros

Roche is a great company with awesome benefits. They have terrific healthcare, great dental and eye care plus they really are setup well to take care of people.

Cons

I found the culture here to be the most toxic of all companies in my career. This organization is very political and clicky. During my time here I have started to take anxiety and blood pressure medicine because of the continued pressure to perform along with constant criticism. I would not recommend working at Roche to my worst enemy.

Advice to Management

Figure out how to be much more supportive of your people and understand how oppressive random constant unfounded comments are to people. The company could be a great one with great people but you have a lot of leaders who continually beat on the same people over and over again. I am excited to be out and away from this environment.

What is the retirement plan like at Roche?

Pros

Handled the COIVD crisis really well. Made a real commitment to not cut jobs. This company has been around for over 100 years, so they know how to weather a crisis. So as frustrating as it was at times to have to deal with the slow, methodical decision making, I grew to respect the leadership team for keep the ship going. While pay is low for the Bay Area, the benefits are pretty fantastic, especially retirement. The Express Development Opportunity program allows for you to try a role to augment skills or get perspective from another department. Work life balance is great, and I rarely worked more than 40 hours.

Cons

A long way to go on diversity. Lack of support for affinity groups, and to my knowledge, no dedicated D&I leadership. Genentech employees tend to have nicer perks and culture, and Roche could learn more from them. Be more proactive with employee development. It's not good enough to tell us that "our career is in our hands" without providing clear paths for advancement or lateral moves.

Advice to Management

Learn more from Genentech. Improve daily processes (legacy systems for purchasing etc are painful). The common mantra "talk to your manager" needs to be retired. Managers aren't being provided with sufficient training nor are they all the same quality. That can lead to employees feeling stuck.
