What is a typical working day like at SBI?
Pros
IT officers are not transferred inter-circle as often as general banking staff.
Cons
1. No scope for career development and opaque promotion exercises. 2. IT officers are expected to be "jack of all trades" with no possibility to specialize in any IT technologies. 3. Very limited chance of working on latest / upcoming technologies 4. Management operates an IT division like a bank branch - management structure and style is ill suited for an IT services delivery unit. 5. Very toxic internal politics. 6. Possibility of shift based duty (including night duty) - I have personally been working rotating shifts for over 7 years now (shift assignments changes every week - 24x7 including weekend and holiday).
Advice to Management
Please understand that IT operations are different from other business verticals of the Bank and requires it's own specialized processes and talent pool. One size fits all management styles will not produce good ROI.

What is the salary like at SBI?
Pros
You learn the basics of the job in a short period because they force you to do 3 people’s worth of work with absurdly low pay.
Cons
For a UK based place, they bring all of the typical Indian, uncultured of the UK and absolutely controlling and rude people from India to control the entire organisation. The upper India management are ruthless and are only here for a holiday not to work all they do is blame you for things they restricted and said no to themselves. Do not expect any sort of comfort from them. It doesn’t just stop there, there is a clear divide between the India based staff and locals. Locals get treated like they are worth nothing and India based staff are treated like royalty, they even pay for their rents, and living expenses of their entire families expenses . They also have India based staff dinners which locals don’t get told until a minute before so that they can pretend like they care. Locals basically are worth nothing in the company and are the low of the low in the hierarchy. You get told to keep quiet and not question anything that you are told and just to do it even if it does more harm than good to the company. The typical mentality in the bank is nowhere near like a family. All you see is hierarchy till the point of where you don’t get recognised for your hard work, instead your up the line gets all the credit. People in the company are very selfish and gossip about others and no one is there to support you mentally or with work. Bullying is ridiculous at the company where people think they can bully others to do things out of their job description. The toxic culture is not good for anyone in the UK looking for a job. Your line manager won’t even support you for big things because firstly they don’t even know their own job, secondly they just to please the India based officers and thirdly they only care about their progression. No sense of progression in the organisation and the pay is ridiculously low compared to any other corporate organisation especially for the amount of work you have to do. Learn to make your local staff happy. When there is a problem like bullying solve the problem don’t differ it. India staff you are not here on holiday you are playing with people’s lives who live in the UK and making our lives very difficult. Learn to train India staff with basic UK etiquette and manners because they clearly have no manners. Learn to not bully your staff and brush everything under the carpet. Solve the problem and maybe then you may just get a better staff retention rate. Very poor staff retention rate. HR in UK is absolutely useless! They only care about tea and biscuits and don’t bother solving any problems. If you go to them with your issue they pretend to care and then brush it under the carpet. Only when an upper management has the same issue is when it is resolved. Everyone else they don’t care about.
