What are co-workers like at Upwork?

Pros

Upwork's mission is to create economic opportunities so that people have better lives, and you see that in everything we do. The company is filled with smart people who are passionate about our mission. Hayden is an incredibly authentic, smart CEO making big, bold changes, and yet throughout all the challenges of 2020 she has never stopped putting people first. Upwork cares very much about employees, and I feel very taken care of during all the challenges of COVID. When other companies were laying people off, Upwork was giving away $1M in talent grants to companies fighting COVID, which helped those companies succeed but also helped Upwork freelancers work at a really trying time. Hayden has also taken a strong and vocal stand on Black Lives Matter. The company is committed to diversity, and has clear goals and plans to improve. We also have an amazing DIBs leader and program, not to mention our amazingly compassionate SVP of HR.. Another pro is that we are permanently remote first, and the culture fully embraces this concept. No surprise, we have been doing it for 20 years. Bottom line, there is no better time to be at Upwork - the work we do to provide companies remote talent has never been more important or timely. The work is exciting, we are making bold moves, and colleagues are supportive. This is a place you can really make an impact with your expertise from day one - all helped by the fact that we have a culture that rewards a bias for action and has very little red tape.

Cons

We work very hard and at a quick pace, but you also feel like you are accomplishing so much and working with great people, so it is not an issue.

Advice to Management
