      Machine Learning Scientist Interview

      I interviewed at ASOS

      Interview

First round interview for motivations and background followed by a take home test. First round was good, but the take home test was very long. It's far longer than any take home test I've completed, and the feedback was in part that I should have spent longer on elements of it. Overall a waste of time.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

General motivation questions. Take home test was to build a recommender system for a dataset they had.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're always looking to improve our recruitment process and give our candidates the best possible experience. We're really sorry to hear that you found our take home test quite long and we understand that taking part in these types of tests can take some time to finish. We're currently looking into our assessment process within Machine Learning to ensure we're giving candidates enough time and making the process enjoyable. Thank you again for your feedback, it's been passed onto the appropriate teams who will be looking into this matter.

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at ASOS (London, England) in Aug 2022

      Interview

Initial technical interview was ok. It was an intense rapid fire round. But at the end of the interview, the toxic bullying was already coming out of the interviewers. I just put my head down to dodge the negative energy and they quickly realised they were putting me off. This was followed by technical task which they said should take a few hours but it required at least 5 days of work. I was not going to put in that much work for free not after the potential bullying behaviour in the previous round. Eventually, they said I didn’t put in enough work although the initial parts of my solution looked good to them. If you want candidates to solve a long technical task, consider paying them for the task. I had to chase the recruiter for 2 weeks and the outcome was as I expected. No worries as I definitely feel I dodged a bullet.
