Interview
After review my resume handed by an Amazon employee, they responded quickly to set up a phone interview opportunity. It's a one hour interview with the hiring manager. We went through my resume in 5-10 mins. Then he asked me a classic operations research question: the vehicle routing problem. We know that this problem is NP-hard, then he asked me to spend the rest 40 mins to give him a heuristic algorithm. I didn't get the onsite interview opportunity, unfortunately.

The open question of vehicle routing problem is pretty hard for some one whose research is not focus on this specific area.

Interview
There were 2 interviews in two days. One with the manager and the next with one of the team members. The interviewers were friendly and asked to discuss my thought process with them while solving the problem.

First one with the Manager of the team. He asked me about my research work and gave me one dynamic programming coding problem. Then asked 2 behavioral questions.
Next day I attend another interview with one of the team members. He gave me a problem and asked to compute linear programming. Then asked about some famous optimization algorithms.

Interview
I applied online in Spring 2017. The interview process lasted 2 months. 1 HR screening, 1 phone call with a Product Manager, 1 tech screening with the Director of FEDS and then on-site. The on-site interview included a presentation and five individual talks. The interviewers were extremely nice. The position required expertise in optimization and my background was not a good match. It was a great experience and I understood what I was lacking.
