      Senior Manager Interview

      11 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Amazon (Dallas, TX) in Sept 2021

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter. The recruiter only spoke in copy/paste scripts and seemed entirely uninterested in her job. I was asked to complete a 60 minute virtual job simulation and passed, then I was forwarded along to the hiring manager without any recruiter screen/prep. The hiring manager was nice enough and I heard back within 2 days that I would go to the panel interview. It took a few weeks to hear back about actually scheduling the interview, which consisted of 5 different people over the course of an entire workday (I had to use vacation time). The day before the panel, I was sent an email from the recruiter saying this position required a 2-4 page writing sample and I was provided two topics to choose from. The recruiter then told me that this was due "no later than 48 hours prior" to my panel interview (yet I received these instructions 24 hours prior to the interview). Nevertheless, I took a half day off work to get this back to them ASAP. The panel participants were okay but, as others have said, it's all about the STAR method and being able to spit out numbers. I don't mind that approach, but I was asked 17 different STAR based scenario questions which is honestly pretty absurd. I had answers for them all, but realistically I did not have 17 different "wow" stories specifically involving numbers (some were qualitative based, due to the nature of my role). By the time I got to the infamous "bar raiser" at the very end, I had exhausted most of my substantive quantitative questions (and he only wanted to hear about numbers). All in all, I couldn't have been more prepared, and was happy with my performance. The recruiter called to tell me the results were quote "a mixed bag" and that they wanted to hire me, but for about 30% less than the salary expectations I conveyed in my very first correspondence to the recruiter. Honestly it was an insult to my experience and a giant waste of my time (mentally and literally, as I expended 1.5 vacation days for this process). Please do not sacrifice your self-worth to go through this process with a company that has horrible reviews on Glassdoor.

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Dublin, Dublin) in Mar 2026

      Interview

Very positive experience. The down side was there were 6 rounds of interviews in total but they were scheduled close together. Communication was excellent and a huge amount of helpful resources provided to you to help you prepare.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

      Interview

Phone interview. Asked 4 typical question. The Amazon phone interview was structured and focused on behavioral questions using the STAR method. The interviewer was professional, asking about leadership principles, past challenges, and decision-making. It felt fast-paced yet conversational. I shared clear examples from my experience, highlighted results, and ended confident I demonstrated impact and fit.

Tell me about a time you took ownership of a project. Describe a situation where you disagreed with a teammate or manager. Give an example of when you delivered results under tight deadlines.

      Interview

It was a long but a well designed one. There are tips online that one should go over before the interview process. It can take more than one month to complete the steps, so one should be patient while taking all the tests and other stuff.
