I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Block (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2014
Interview
I had a pretty good internal referral and got a prompt email from Square requesting a phone interview. I had been told that the phone interview was pretty basic: just know about the company and why you want to work there, etc. Things must have changed, because the interview was anything but basic. It was a full blown consulting style interview complete with "how would you do x in y market" questions. I was not prepared for this. No surprise that I did not make it to the next round. The whole process was very civilized though. They gave me a no right away.

How would you launch a debit card reader in Canada?
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Block (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
Quick - from lead to interview took about a week. Met with four individuals, some peers and some managers. All were friendly, 3 behavioral and one case question. Overall it was a neutral to positive experience where we discussed relevant work experience, but didn't get a sense that the company was that well organized.
