The interview started out quite normal. At first. I was greeted by the office manager who sat down with me and asked the same derivative questions that a lot of employers will ask candidates. " Tell me about yourself", " Name a time you did not get along with an employee and how did you handle the situation?"
That's when the boss walked in. He seemed friendly and we shared some witty banter back and forth.
The staff then caught him up on where they were with the questions.
He then started explaining his belief in personality tests and how he believed 100% in using them for screening candidates to find the right fit and that's when it all started getting odd.
The other staff members then started chiming in with their results of these tests. The results we're not a score, but we're rather based on.... an animal.
They all were either an eagle, dove, alligator, axolotl.. who knows? They All seemed so proud and accepted their fate of the chosen animal for them.
I started to wonder if this was some kind of joke. Unfortunately no, it was not a joke.
The boss then started throwing questions my way to discover what kind of animal/bird I was.
After their line of questioning, they did indeed, find out what animal I was and by reading their faces, they weren't too happy about the results.
I started to strangely, feel discriminated against and stereotyped based on a line of questioning that I very much doubt is based on any kind of scientific proof.
After another 20 minutes of the staff bragging proudly about their special animal, they asked me to take another test.
Keep in mind ,we're almost an hour into the interview already at this time, and now I'm stuck here for who knows how much longer.
They left the room while I diligently took this test that asked me all about"what would you do" and " how would you handle it" questions.
Upon completion, I ventured out of the room to advise the interview panel that I was ready for the next step.
I could hear muffled voices and so I followed the sounds which led me to some type of conference room with the door halfway shut.
I could hear these guys talking about me, which I thought was a bit unprofessional.
I knocked quietly and startled, they asked me to join them.
They pulled up the results, and they did not seem pleased about what that test apparently revealed, either.
After about an hour and a half , I was able to"escape" gracefully, and tbh, it felt like I was breaking out of some type of cult.
They never followed up with me or even so much as reached out in an email.
I pretty much figured at the time, that whatever animal I am (according to this personality test) must have been some type of predator to the prey that they were.
