I applied through university. I interviewed at Fisher Investments in Feb 2013
Interview
A quick phone conversation and they invited me out to interview at the firm in Camas, Washington. While everyone was friendly, I was fairly unimpressed with some of the employees and also some of the other candidates. Fisher may benefit from recruiting from better universities - not 2nd rung state schools in the Pacific NW. They seem more interested in hiring out of fraternities and sororities than the intellectual caliber of the applicants themselves. Also, as a group of interviewees we spent more time "partying" and exploring Portland than we did in the office. It seemed to be a priority that we were shown a good time and how much FUN Portland can be. Some of the employees who took us around seemed unprofessional and spent most of the time gossiping about sorority life with their "sisters" who were interviewing. One candidate was openly unfamiliar with the financial crisis of 2008-2009. That aside, beautiful offices and generally nice people - it would not be a bad place to work.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Nothing too difficult - the only thing that tripped me up a bit is I mentioned a project I did for a class and the interviewer went deep into that rabbit hole. I never should have mentioned it - it was over a year ago and I did not remember the exact specifics.
I enjoyed the process but also no idea where it’s going. Excited to see what happens and hoping for a good result. Also I need to write 30 words I guess

Interview
Don’t apply. The only entry position is client service associate which is basically busy work nobody wants to do. They respond to your application quickly because HR is measured by success on how many interviews they do. So they literally interview knowing that they aren’t going to hire. That’s why they always have job openings listed on their website. So they can keep HR busy. The firm has no flexibility. 50 hours of busy work if you do take the job. The process consists of a phone screening then round robin with multiple teams claiming they have open positions but again they only hire CSA for new hires. Questions are all normal behavioral and really easy but hiring is really dependent on if enough people have quit recently that they need bodies.

Interview
The overall interview process was pretty lengthy. For starters, you aren’t applying for the “Investment Associate” role but rather multiple roles that the company thinks you’d fit in well with. First you meet with a recruiter, then you meet with multiple hiring managers, then a debrief with a recruiter about your experience, and then back to one of the hiring managers, and finally culminating with a Vice President or “higher-up.” All this being said, everyone was very polite and welcoming throughout the process. Interview questions were standard behavioral questions with a few random ones mixed in. Expect the whole process to take at least a month from start to finish.
