I interviewed for two engineering manager positions and talked to two recruiters at GitHub. Both were very open about the process as well as the compensation and benefits for the position which I found to be extremely helpful. They also asked me to sign an NDA in order to proceed, so I'll just speak to my perceptions of the process.
First Position: The recruiter skipped the first round of interviews with me and went straight to the second round interviews. During the interviews the interviewers seemed bored as they read off their questions and typed out my answers. This didn't sit well with me, but they were spending all day in interviews asking the same questions to a number of candidates. While I had a lot of experience with their product, they determined they were looking for someone more senior than I was.
Second Position: I was contacted again for another position I applied for. While the first round interview with the senior engineering manager went very well, someone farther along in the process than I was accepted an offer. The second recruiter called me personally to tell me the bad news and shared my resume internally to others recruiters.
Unfortunately, none of the remaining positions left at the time were a good fit. It seems like it was just poor timing. I would happily apply again under different circumstances.
