*** Summary: The lack of communication from the company is unreasonable. They tell you that they will get back to you on a specific time frame but you will have to follow up multiple times to get a response. Any candidate, good or bad, deserves to be treated well as a candidate as we put in a lot of effort in the application process. The company is also NOT friendly when it comes to salary negotiations. Other than that, it seems like a fast growing company to join. ***
I was approached by Goose Digital's CEO, Michael Turcsanyi, through LinkedIn because I have applied for a different position a few months back. We agreed to hop on a phone call and met in person. I was interview by Michael, and some of the core team members of the team.
I got an initial offer and decided to ask Michael for a salary match of an additional 15% to match what I would be getting if I stayed at my current workplace and get the promised raise in a month's time. I think it's pretty standard to negotiate an additional 10-20% of any given salary and everyone should.
However, Michael did not take the salary request well and completely retracted the offer because his expectation was that I would make a lateral move to the company without negotiating. His reason being he was scared of "superstars" like me and his gut feeling is that I would not stay for a long period of time. I put in multiple hours compiling projects I have work on before and even presented a project overview of a specific project which shows how dedicated I was to the opportunity.
If you know your worth, do not be afraid to negotiate. If the company doesn't react well to negotiating, look for another company to work for. It's a major red flag.
In between all of this, I had to follow up multiple times and even had to give Michael a call to get the back and forth conversation going. Overall, I would not recommend going through the interview process at this company. No candidate, good or bad, should be through this agonizing process.
