      IT Compliance/Auditing Interview

      27 May 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Indeed (Austin, TX) in May 2015

      Interview

Interview process is not so complicated, one round phone interview, talking about resume and some relevant behavioral question. Then got onsite interview. All the logistics, flight, hotels were arranged well before the onsite. All of the interviews went on smoothly, I gave impressive answers to the technical questions, finance question, system design questions, behavioral questions and written test. But for the last round interview with VP, kinda tricky. Please be careful if you go to that last round. He first asked some advise about data protection for certain partnership such as banking. So I gave some IT compliance standard and practices for data protection and leakage prevention. But it then turned out that he already has his own answer in his mind, which is no need to protect job seeker's data since they want to disclose their personal information in order to find a job. Thus no need to implement extra standard for legal purposes. This will save money and time. I felt like whatever I said could be wrong. And then he suddenly let me hack indeed.com and asked a lot of hacking problems, which is fine. I was a little surprised because usually we do not do penetration testing like this. And this is not a hacking position even though I have previous experiences for that. At last he said that an IT compliance analyst should listen more and has a six sense/intuition for risks, which can be a hint that I do not have certain sense or I talked too much? I guess if I talked too little, then he might say that an IT compliance analyst should communicate more...whatever. I think that Texas is a conservative place for job hunting, it is good for living, even if you are from top schools outside of Texas, your chances to get hired in Texas is not higher than local candidates. California would be more open for candidates all over the country. Overall I am very disappointed about that experience because I once thought Indeed is a different company, it is expanding and need more diverse people. Maybe for software engineers, Indeed is more open to talents all over the world. After the interview, no one takes care of my expense reimbursement for the following 2 weeks. I sent 10+ emails to follow. All of the emails we once communicated become silent, until today when I cc all of the relevant HR they finally sent me a google link to update my bank information. In that case, I find that the company is not professional, when they fly you out for an interview, they are really nice, when they do not wanna hire you, they will not even reply to your expense reimbursement emails any more...
