Interview
Each department and project may recruit differently, so this is only an example of one process. A representative gave a presentation and conducted one on one interviews directly afterwords. The interview lasted a half hour and focused on past work experience and soft skills like project management and communication. Two phone interviews were conducted lasting perhaps 20 minutes each focusing more on the interest in the organization and research focus. Once selected, a candidate is given an approximate time for hiring, though the date is not set until a couple of weeks prior. The candidate is also not explicitly told what project they will be working on until they start. They basically look for candidates who can manage projects independently, are creative problem solvers, can communicate well and can work with diverse set of people.
