      Bodily Injury Claims Adjuster Interview

      18 Jun 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Kemper (Dallas, TX)

      Interview

Complete mess from start to finish. I'll start off by saying I have 5 years experience as a bodily injury claims adjuster. The HR rep had the wrong questionnaire and asked me total loss auto property damage questions, which I have no experience in. She seemed ready to rush me off the phone, told me she would simply write "N/A" for a total loss question and refused to tell me the benchmark their current adjusters were at (red flag #1). To my absolute surprise I was invited for a second interview. I decided it was possible the HR rep simply had a busy or bad day and maybe it was a fluke. I interviewed with two managers and it just went downhill from there. They obviously were not listening to any of my answers and had awkwardly worded questions. I was told the benchmark, finally, which was well above 200 per adjuster (red flag #2). I stated my salary requirements and this was met with shock and an answer of they "weren't sure what their adjusters were paid" (red flag #3) when I asked what their typical salary range would be. I received a call from the HR rep shortly after my interview where she condescendingly asked where I was licensed. She then asked me about a state I had listed first and asked "are you sure?" She may have misspelled my name looking me up but immediately jumped on me for it. After all of that, I got the generic HR rejection email. So, even though I knew it was a mistake, I called the HR rep to ask why, as I assumed it was a salary issue (which might be why their reps have over 200 claims if they aren't being compensated for it). The HR rep was in no mood to negotiate whatsoever, proceeded to cut me off right from the start to tell me that "legally" she couldn't tell me the reason I was rejected, advised she "didn't know what I wanted her to say" and then explained to me that there were a lot of candidates and few positions. I am well aware of how job interviews and the process works. I ended up hanging up on her. I don't think I have ever encountered a worse hiring process in the entire time I've been applying for jobs and working. If I didn't have friends who worked for Kemper who rave about how great it is, I would have never even answered the email for the second interview.
