I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at LyondellBasell (Houston, TX) in Jul 2011
Interview
First there was a written "Mechanical Aptitude" test. If you are among the top performers on the mechanical aptitude test, you will be selected to go through a series of interviews. There will be a group round, with a panel of Lyondell employees, both salary and hourly and a psychologist as well. During this group round, you'll be with be asked to complete several exercises such as organizing a list of items for survival in a desert (from most to least important) and presenting it. After that you will have a one-on-one with with only hourly workers where they'll ask you questions about whether or not you can work long hours, nights, weekends, can you sacrifice some personal life for the company etc. and you can ask them questions as well. Obviously, this is recommended.

Interview
Several step process. Received an email to contact a hiring group to attend pre-employment testing, a basic mechanical aptitude test and then a character assessment with questions about stealing and drug use. After a week I received a call for an in person interview. Basic STAR based interview, have you ever type questions regarding safety and personal accomplishments, this was conducted with a panel of five people. Not a difficult interview but disappointing the interviewers were 25 minutes late and the whole process felt like a cattle call.

Mostly behavior questions of what would you do in this situation. It's a panel interview with 4 people in the room taking turns asking questions. At the end of the interview they ask you why they should hire you in particular over any of the other interviewers.
