Received a text msg asking me if I was available for a phone interview in 25 minutes. No other communication had taken place before this other than me submitting my resume online. The text gave a name but no title so I assumed it was a company recruiter. Call came in he gave his name but not his title, started off by asking why I was interested in the job/company which I explained to him. He said the role name and I said "no I applied for the Chief Mechanical Engineer role" and he said well, they are similar and we have several open positions right now. Then he asked about my managerial experience which I explained in more detail which matched what I have on my resume. Next question was "do you have any questions for me?" I replied by asking more about the role to which his reply was "well it requires a lot of managerial experience and I don't think it would be a good fit" and that was it. The role description made no mention of the size of the team reporting to the role and the managerial duties listed were all things that I currently do, so I don't really understand his decision to end the interview so abruptly. Very unprofessional IMO, and why have a hiring manager call to do a phone screen for a position which he seemingly reports to? The whole affair felt really disconnected and lazy. I wouldn't apply for another job there until this person moves on or moves out.
