Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Morgan McKinley in May 2009.

Interview

I applied through an online advertisement for a position as a Research Associate with Morgan McKinley. After correcting and adjusting my cover letter and resume, I received a phone call from the Morgan McKinley Hong Kong office and was invited to come for a 1-on-1 interview. The first interview was relatively informal, being asked about my time in university, my previous work experiences, why I wanted to get into the headhunting industry. With confidence that the interview went relatively well, I got invited back for a second round interview. This interview was alot harder as it put my relevant skills to thrive as a headhunter into test. I was asked several penetrative questions about the different ways to build a client list and was put in a mock situation whereby I was asked to bypass a certain front-office employee over the phone to attain and generate a potential candidates list. This proved to be a greater challenge than I had expected and consequently, did terribly in this round. Having gone through the interview process, I followed up my application and was told that they will make a decision 'within a few days'. Unsurprisingly, they did not contact me for another 2 weeks until finally, I managed to get in touch with my first interviewer after a dragged out affair of me deligently calling the company everyday to ask to speak to one of my interviewers. Regardless, I was given the usual, 'You did well in the interview but we decided to go for another candidate' answer to my application and thus, ended my short but possibly invaluable interview experience with Morgan McKinley. All in all, the interview was tough and was certainly an eye-opener for a recent university graduate at that time. However, the way the company kept 'stringing' me along for 2 weeks and its elusive nature to interviewees was something that, in my opinion, discredits the company and its image.
