This was a very long and sometimes tedious process. I was contacted by a recruiter in November and was scheduled for an interview in early December. The marketing department was a hot mess. I have not seen a bigger joke of marketing like this for a long time. The new marketing manager had been hired only 4 months earlier, only after some genius at Simple Green realized that their marketing was stuck in the 1970s. She did tell me that the process could take a while and not to freakout and that the next round of interviews, if I made it would consist of a sample presentation followed by a panel interview. Nearly 2 months later, the recruiter contacted me to tell me that I made it to the next round of interviews, which consisted of me creating (4) 3 part campaigns, which could include videos, slides, graphics and whatever media I wanted to use. I was competing against 3 other candidates and had 1 week to complete everything. After submitting all 12 campaigns, the recruiter contacted me 2 more weeks later to say that I had made it to the next round, a pitch meeting and an interview with the SVP of sales/marketing but I would have only 30 minutes for each meeting. After meeting with the SVP, he mentioned that before hiring the new marketing manager (which she confirmed took months) he literally interviewed 45 candidates and whittled that down to 12 people and finally 4 people, than 2 people and then finally hired the one person he wanted! In our interview he told me, that there could be two more rounds of interviews, ending with the founder of the company. If you are applying for a job at this company, it may take a year to get in, if you are lucky. In the end, they hired someone they already knew and none of the candidates in my pool were chosen, because the other person they hired was the perfect "personality" fit for the company, my recruiter told me. You don't need experience to work at Sunshine Makers/ Simple Green, you need to have the right personality. They are a family and if you don't fit into the family after 6-12 months of interviewing, you are not getting in.
