      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Stratos Genomics (Seattle, WA) in Feb 2018

      Interview

Interviewers were cold, rude, and combative. They came in basically expecting me to fail, and spent half an hour telling me all the reasons I wasn't qualified for the job. They expect a massive level of commitment to an entry-level job, a 55 hour work week, and what seems like a master's level understanding of the science, but are only offering the equivalent of $16/hour IF you don't consider overtime pay as 1.5x hourly (if you do it's around $13/hour). Overall seemed to be a very toxic work environment, and a poorly designed "stress-testing" interview process.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Stratos Genomics

      Interview

A quick phone interview that's more of a chat, then a longer (2+ hour) in person interview. I met with other lab assistants, the lab manager, the VP, and finally the CEO. They're more concerned about your personality and ability to learn than what you actually know.

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Stratos Genomics (Seattle, WA)

      Interview

I initially had a phone interview with just Kendra, the lab manager. We chatted about my experience, who I am, what I'm looking for, and the kind of work environment I would fit in to. The interview took over 2 hours. They don't tell you this which can be a problem if you have a life. Since everyone here works 11+ hours a day, they tend to forget this. I did an initial round with Kendra and Melud, the director of some group. They asked me about my experiences, why I wanted to work there, what I wanted out of the job, and what I could bring to them. They asked me if there was something I've done that not a lot of other people have done. They then had me wait while they talked to the other interviewees. Then they brought me in to ask about PCR with the president, Mark Kokoris. I had to list the reagents and why they're necessary, list the steps and why they're in that order, and discuss uses of PCR. Mark Kokoris then asked if me if I really wanted to work 55 hours a week. I lied because no one wants to work that much, but I needed experience to just get into an entry level job. Say yes and that you're looking forward to the challenge.
