      Salon Designer Interview

      12 Jan 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at TNG Worldwide in Jan 2008

      Interview

I initially found the posting for this job online, and sent an online resume to the company. I received a phone call from someone in Human Resources shortly thereafter to schedule a 1:1 interview. The day of the interview, I was greeted by the receptionist and my overall impression of the location was a good one. A woman (not the woman I had spoken to the on the phone, but apparently someone else in the human resources dept.) came out and had me fill out more paperwork. They were the exact same forms that I had already filled out online so that was a bit annoying. The woman was friendly enough as we headed to a conference room for the actual interview. I remember the questions that she asked being very peculiar, such as "do you smoke?" and "do you like to work out?" The position that I was applying for was as a designer in their new Salon Design center, so I guess I assumed that the questions would be more applicable to my design skills, etc. I had brought a portfolio of my design work, but the woman hardly even looked at it. I got the impression that she didn't have the faintest idea about design, CAD, etc, but was just "screening" me. I left the interview feeling good about my answers, etc. but not feeling so positive about the company itself. As I left, the woman explained that the person who was actually in charge of that dept. would be in town "sometime in the next couple weeks" and that they'd schedule another interview with me (and the other candidates) in a group setting at that time. I asked her if they had a specific date in mind, and she said that it would be up in the air until a couple days beforehand. Being that I currently had another job, it would be nearly impossible for me to arrange my schedule at a moment's notice to go on another interview. A few days later, I wrote the woman an email notifying her that I was no longer interested in the job.
