This was for Yahoo Finance.
Applied online. Was contacted directly by the the Dev manager. Did a video phone screen on something like colabedit. Came in for an interview.
They gave me about 3 hours to code up an app, then they gave me an algorithm test, then one that was a little more behavioral, and finally an app design session.
The food was good, and their office seems pretty nice, although they were recently acquired by Oath/Verizon. It seemed a little empty. Kinda cool to see all the Aol stuff and brands I recognize all in the same office.
Edited: Originally I posted that there was no follow up. I received a response about a couple weeks after the interview letting me know that they were looking for someone more senior.
Still not sure where I went wrong. I think I did pretty well on the app test and the algorithm question, so maybe they just did not feel that it was a strong culture fit.
There is an option to do a presentation instead of the 1:1 interview sessions. If you have a personal project or are an expert on a topic they will encourage you to present.
