The point of the questions is to gauge your emotional intelligence in the workplace........is this person going to place blame and create negativity, or take responsibility and move on? When people have a lot of conflict at work its typically a reflection of their personal life, and not workplace environment(sometimes it is poor leadership at the office). You should be able to say "I'm fair with everyone and have no problem having a private conversation with someone to find out how they are feeling and resolve misperceptions." This makes it a non-issue across the board. OR " I've never had an interpersonal issue that has affected my work or anyone else's"... always follow up with a question like," does that make sense?" and "What is the company policy on conflict resolution and who should I involve if I have an issue?" This shows you understand chain of command and are willing to follow the rules. This question becomes more important as a manager, than an individual contributor role. Managers have to manage conflict effectively and it means simply listening and setting expectations. Less
