There are misguided, untrained employees but not difficult employees. Employees who are not engaged and inspired become challenging employees. In my tenure as a Manager for 17 years I have encountered many challenging employees. One resonates with me over the years. She was very negative and would pass that on to others (doom and gloom) I had never met such an employee. I started off my asking her what caused her to feel as she does, and the crux of her issue was being promised promotions that never manifested. I was transparent, understanding but firm on job responsibilities and expectations. I challenged her to achieve baseline goals and held her accountable but also celebrated small victories. She became one of my most outstanding employees to this day; high achiever. Proving that all employees waby to succeed but do we provide them with the tools to succeed and do we hold them in account for performance but good and bad. Less
