What is Chromatography? Mass Spectrometry?

You should know this stuff if you're applying for the position. Chromatography separates the sample into it's components based on some property like polarity, size, or chirality of the components. Mass Spec energizes the eluting compounds through electron impact at 70eV, and those compounds will fragment upon relaxation, and each of those fragments has a mass and a charge associated with it, the spectrum of fragments based on the ratio of mass to charge is analyzed by comparing relative abundance of each fragment size. Patient bodily fluid/blood specimen is received without legible identification; what do you do next?
2 Answers↳
Reject specimen and request redraw. You can not allow a nurse or phlebotomist to "assume" they "know" who the specimen belongs to. The Specimen MUST be labeled, with a viable, readable label at the patients bedside at the time of draw, and after having verified the patients identity using TWO identifiers that are corroborated on the label. Call hospital personnel who collected sample and sent sample to laboratory. Request detailed correction of label. Determine if a new lab specimen from patient is required per lab protocol. Less
