Last year, our employees volunteered more than 29,000 hours on projects in countries around the world. Wherever we work, we aim to make a positive impact on our local communities. On International Volunteer Day, we would like to thank all of our employees who have volunteered in their local community. Our Chairman, Leif Johansson, has joined 50 business leaders in a pan-European pledge to promote inclusion and diversity. At AstraZeneca, we’re proud to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected because of their difference. By creating a place where every employee can be themselves, we believe that we can unleash the power of our collective potential to help us to achieve our bold ambition. About our GTC:
AstraZeneca’s Global technology center (GTC), India Private Ltd. was set up in September 2014 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India with the mandate to deliver best in class IT service for the global business. The objectives of the center were collocation, collaboration and control over the IT services rendered to the business.
The Global Technology Centre currently houses 2400+ employees becoming one of the largest pharma Technology Centres in India. The GTC has committed to delivering the global mandate spanning excellence in delivery, Innovation and being a great place to work for its people.
Our journey to where we are today has been made successful by our people. The GTC truly is a hub for STEM talent – with over 82% of our graduates having computer science and engineering degrees. We have a highly diverse population with more than 25% women.
Our technology stack is very vast as we support a variety of internal customers ranging from our scientists to our sales folks; each of these customers who use very different technologies and tools are serviced by the GTC.
Our Learning and development team focuses on all-round development. Be it leadership training or technical training, we have some of the best in class offerings. We have partnered with industry stalwarts like Skillsoft, Pluralsight, Franklin Covey, AWS and Microsoft to offer trainings to our employees.
GTC has won the most coveted award given by NASSCOM for Learning and Development (L&D) at the Nasscom Global Capability Centre conclave. The award was given to recognise the outstanding Learning and Development program provided to our employees at our centre. As well, the Chennai GTC has won many internal awards for being a Great Place to Work.
The centre’s extensive focus on investing and developing cross functional initiatives contributes to being ‘A Great Place to Work’. The initiatives focus on improving collaboration (Ways of Working), creating awareness on our Pharma business (Business Connect), simplifying work by adopting lean methodology (Lean)and allowing knowledge sharing in areas like Data Science, Dev-ops (Communities of Practice) and providing employees to work on proof of concepts on Innovation projects (Digital Transformation).
In addition to these, we have a women's forum and a J@az (Joy at AstraZeneca) club. The women's forum provides a platform for women to share their experiences, educate them on how to face challenges, address issues, leadership trainings and more. The Jazz club is involved in running the Cricket, Badminton, TT tournaments and in running internal employee engagement events like our Annual Day.
Our CSR initiative truly help us give back to the society. We have adopted 3 villages in TamilNadu with the ambition of holistically developing them across social, economic, wellness, education, infrastructure and environment.
AstraZeneca India is celebrating its 40th year in the Country and as part of the celebration, we have organized National Community Week in the month of August. The week of ‘Giving back to the society’ included Health Check-up which covered 400+ patients across 20+ villages in Thiruvallur district, plantation of 200 tree saplings in the villages and finally inauguration of Balwadi sponsored by AstraZeneca.
A Community day will be organized to create awareness on Non-Communicable diseases in schools in Thiruvallur district covering 600 students. Following the school activity, we have planned to do a beach cleanup activity in Chennai engaging the employees, their families and public.

Advice to Management
I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at AstraZeneca (Bengaluru) in June 2011.
Initial written test on chemistry followed by technical interview with senior scientists. After that an HR interview to give offer letter.
