I worked at Magnusson Klemencic Associates full-time (More than a year)
Interesting projects. Talented people, and research is encouraged. Profit-sharing and bonus structures are good. Good career options once you have their name on your resume.
Severe work-life balance issues. Single engineers in their 20s can stay until 11 PM on a regular basis. That doesn't work for most parents, and they don't pay enough so that the second parent can stay at home. Low pay, substandard benefits. Very few women in leadership. Lots of talk about having a great culture, but no work goes into improving it.
Advice to Management
Learn to value employees other than 20-something men, and stop shaping your whole company to cater to them. Hire to staff for the actual workload. Honestly reflect on company culture and expectations. And if you don't improve anything else, at least pay better.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Magnusson Klemencic Associates (Seattle, WA (US)).
Very laid back and relaxed... there were no technical aspects to this interview whatsoever, as MKA is fairly confident they can rely on your stellar academic background (they only hire from a select number of accredited programs) and trust that they can teach you everything else. The main point of the interview is really to get to know you and make sure you're a good fit for the office culture.
Minimal negotiation, they hire right out of college/grad school so most people are just happy to be landing a great job.
