Commodities Trainee - Cotton Trader Interview

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at Noble Group Limited in January 2014.

    Interview

The interview process started with submitting an application on the Noble Group careers website. Within two days I was contacted by an HR representative by phone. The initial call was only to schedule a time for a 30-minute phone interview with the same person at a later date.

30-minute phone interview: 10 minutes used by recruiter to describe the job I was interviewing for in more detail. 15 minutes spent going over my own background, experience, and why I was applying for the job. Last 5 minutes were for me to ask any questions I might have. Interviewer informs me they will get back to me about the next step of the process via email in the next few days.

2nd Interview: Emails are exchanged and a second interview is scheduled. This was over Skype and with the HR director. Duration was about 1-hour and was quite similar to the first interview, but in much more detail. Specific questions regarding my current knowledge of commodities trading, hedging, and current knowledge of the Cotton industry. Again, interview ended with the director saying the previous HR recruiter would contact me by email. Some questions along the lines of:
          - What is your biggest shortcoming?
          - Describe work environments that you thrive in
          - Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

3rd Interview: Phone interview scheduled with head Cotton Trader at that specific office. This interview was less about technical knowledge/experience and more concerning my personality traits/work ethic/stress management/conflict resolution. Duration was only about 30-45 minutes.
