I worked at Yankee Candle full-time (Less than a year)
Moved up quickly, helpful, upbeat, fun
Wasn't trained properly, left to fend for myself
Advice to Management
My manager hadn't had to train someone for my position in 8 years prior to me getting the job, so she didn't know any of the information necessary for my training, which put me in a tight spot. I was forced to get my training over the phone from the help desk or from managers at other stores. Managers, know your stuff.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took a week. I interviewed at Yankee Candle in January 2010.
I applied online. Since I rarely get a response I sent the CEO of Yankee Candle stating my experience selling to retail stores. The CEO sent the letter to the President of Yankee Candle who interviewed me for the position. Then a person from HR called me to interview me for the position. Although the title National Sales Manager the position was managing a small staff trying to sell to independent stores.
My perception by asking where they worked before coming to Yankee Candle is that they want people that come from major brands that sell to retail stores.
