      Comfortable, good work-life balance

      Pros

Most people are easy to work with and the work-life balance is good so far. Many people there have been there for many years, which is indicative of a comfortable/good working culture.

      Cons

Environment not the most ideal if you're younger. I like working here, but for now I don't see myself staying past 1 -2 years.

      Pros

Working as an FMA at ACCO Brands is extremely rewarding. Since the program is rotational, you get the chance to rotate between the different departments in finance. Being able to see all the "gears in motion" of company (from a finance perspective) is a non-stop learning environment. It's truly exceptional that management has the flexibility for FMAs to rotate through their departments. If you're always looking for something new, leading projects using Six Sigma tools, and having a willingness to always learn new processes, being an FMA at ACCO Brands is definitely for you.

      Cons

The IT department can be slow at fixing your "IT issue" and sometimes the office can be a bit quiet but you can plug in your ear buds and listen to music. Honestly, compared to my last job (public accountant for a small firm), being able to ask managers questions, not having to work mandatory Saturdays, and actually having a work/life balance is more than I could ask for. Based on prior work experience, there are no major cons when working for ACCO.

A lot of work. Very little reward. Not worth it.

      Pros

      - Opportunity to learn due to lean nature of the organization. - Not a lot of process will allow you to execute with speed. - Entrepreneurial environment, open to new ideas/opportunities. - Product samples (office and school supplies).

      Cons

      - The industry is declining and changing and the company does not have the correct resources and mindset to keep up. - There are departments with horrible managers who are highly unprofessional. Their bad habits are contagious and accepted, so watch out! With that being said, it's not common but there are some good managers. - No focus on employee growth, learning, and professional development. - Lean to the point that it hurts employees work-life balance and it hurts the company's output. - Culture includes a lot of gossiping, throwing people under the bus, negativity. You see it everyday! This is not normal, please fix this. Don't recommend leaving any job to join ACCO Canada. There's a lot of companies out there that will treat their employees better and with a better foundation (resources, leadership, strategy). The views and opinions expressed are based on my experience and not meant to be taken as facts. Do you due diligence and reach out to former/current employees for more opinions.

      Terrible employer

28 Aug 2016 - Analyst in Sidney, NY

      Business Outlook

      Pros

There are some very knowledgeable and friendly people to work with who care more about achieving common goals than ego.

      Cons

Morale in divisions is incredibly low. Everyone is frustrated and miserable about current leadership. There is no work/life balance. Some departments are allowed to work from home, while others are not. Expected to work nights and weekends to cover for people that ACCO laid off. Benefits have been on a steady decline. Fun events at the divisions is gone, but corporate upper management's are still funded. Prioritization by escalation is the rule. Senior management treats vendors and division employees with little respect, sometimes making jokes and laughing at their expense. It is embarrassing and degrading.

Great place to build experience if you're willing to take the risk of being laid off.

      Pros

Awesome work-life balance and flexibility. Teamwork and collaboration valued across the organization. Decent benefits and pay. Modern workplace and environment.

      Cons

Office Products is in a state of decline which translates to annual layoffs. Unless you are in good standing with someone in the executive level management, be prepared to be blacklisted on the next round of layoffs. If you are lucky enough to survive each and every layoff, be prepared to have a title and job function change annually. Company is definitely in the state of survival mode rather than growth.

      Pros

GREAT people! Great pay and benefits, work/life balance, very flexible with time off requests.

      Cons

I began working for the company under MeadWestvaco and it was fantastic. A few months after my start date the ACCO merger brought massive restructuring, layoffs and policy changes. The cull started with long time employees and continued until the vast majority of positions on the admin side were eliminated or relocated leaving the facility as primarily as a manufacturing site.

Not an organization I would recommend to a potential hire.

      Pros

it is an ethical company that generally respects employees and work/life balance.

      Cons

There are a lot of turnover and strategy changes which end up costing us sales $ and customer confidence. The company does not emphasize personal growth and/or career development. Based on decisions and structural changes over the years, I question whether senior management really has an idea of what is going on with the details of the business.

      Pros

Living wage, good benefits, safe work environment. Opportunities for lateral movement. Excellent support of charitable and community causes. Good work life balance philosophy.

      Cons

Constantly reorganizing. Most competitor have a much higher pay scale. Cultural idea of open communication is to provide monthly business updates. Line managers do not encourage feedback, and if given, are not acted upon or responded to. If you are not a part of the clique culture, it will be difficult to succeed/survive.
